Iranian-backed groups’ checkpoints deploy on Syrian-Iraqi borders
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday, checkpoints and patrols of groups affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) deployed on the Syrian-Iraqi borders, east Deir ez-Zor, in order to running the borders and prevent smuggling operations.
“The seven checkpoints that were deployed are permanent checkpoints not temporary, and there will be mobile patrols which will do tours from time to time, at the border strip,” Haydar al-Habib (pseudonym), a member of Liwa Fatemiyoun, told North Press.
“All the checkpoints and patrols are run by field commanders to supervise them directly,” al-Habib added.
Al-Habib pointed out that the checkpoints and patrols raise the Syrian flags to avoid being targeted by Israeli warplanes.
On April 23, a closed meeting between the IRGC and the affiliated groups was held in the city of Abu Kamal, in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, aiming to jointly manage and supervise the Syrian-Iraqi borders between the IRGC- backed groups and the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces.
Liwa Fatemiyoun and Harakat Hezbollah al-Nujaba, with support from the IRGC, started constructing joint posts in the border area in order to inspect trucks and fully supervise the crossings and borders.
