Qamishli events are attempts to create security unrest, blackmail AANES: Future Syria Party
RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday head of Future Syria Party Ibrahim al-Kaftan said that the aim of the Syrian government in starting conflicts in Qamishli, northeast Syria, is to create unrest in the region and blackmail the Autonomous Administration in North and East Syria (AANES).
Since Tuesday, al-Tai neighborhood in Qamishli has been witnessing heavy clashes with medium and light weapons between the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) and pro-government National Defense Forces (NDF).
”What is happening in Qamishli shows harmony between the government and Russia on one hand and Turkey on the other hand,” he told North Press.
”The convergence of interests had happened in Ain Issa as well when the same parties cooperated to pressure the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to hand the town over to the Damascus government and deprive the AANES of the strategic town that connects the areas it controls,” according to al-Kaftan.
”The government tries to show that the AANES is losing legitimacy to push it to make political and military concessions to Damascus in light of its preparation for the presidential elections which have lost their legitimacy even before they begin,” he pointed out.
”Activating the fight in Qamishli by groups loyal to Damascus is the government’s attempts to export its economic crisis and persuade the loyalist that the AANES is the reason for the economic crisis,” he stated.
“Thee intransigence of the government, its lack of acceptance of the political solution, and commitment to the relevant UN decisions is what brought the country to its state today,” he referred.
Damascus has “other goals in provoking the fighting in Qamishli, and seeks to blackmail the AANES and accuse it falsely of denying Syrians in government-held areas access to wheat and oil derivatives,” he indicated.
He pointed out an attempt by internal and regional parties opposing the AANES’s project to pressure it “in order to resurrect the government and give it legitimacy through the upcoming presidential elections.”
