US to hold indirect communication with Iran through Europe

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Friday, the White House national security adviser, Jake Sullivan said that diplomatic communication with Iran is ongoing, but “just not in a direct fashion at the moment.”

“There are communications through the Europeans and through others that enable us to explain to the Iranians what our position is with respect to the compliance for compliance approach and to hear what their position is,” Sullivan added.

“We are waiting at this point to hear further from the Iranians how they would like to proceed,” he noted.

Sullivan pointed out that this communication is not going to be easy but “we believe that we are in a diplomatic process now.”

We can move forward on and ultimately secure our objective, which is to prevent Iran from getting a nuclear weapon and to do so through diplomacy, according to Sullivan.

On February 24, the US State Department spokesman, Ned Price said, his country’s patience with Iran on returning to discussions over the 2015 nuclear deal is “limited.”

The US has recently confirmed accepting the European invitation for dialogue with Iran, after diplomatic mobility during the recent period.

On February 19, The White House spokesperson, Jen Psaki, said that the EU has suggested the idea of talks between Iran and the six major powers that signed the agreement.

“The Europeans have invited us and…it is simply an invitation to have a talk, a diplomatic talk,” she added. Late in February, the Iranian ambassador to the UN, Majid Takht-Ravanci stated that his country would like the US to return the 2015 nuclear deal
