Turkey continues to send reinforcements to Syria’s northwest

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Friday, the Turkish forces sent more reinforcements to the Syrian territories in light of the developments of the military escalation between the Syrian government forces and the pro-Turkish armed opposition groups.

Sending reinforcements coincided with the first anniversary of the Russian-Turkish agreement on March 5, 2020, which provided a ceasefire and the establishment of a safe corridor in addition to the conduct of joint military patrols in Idlib.

A field source told North Press, a Turkish military convoy entered from the Kafr Lossin border crossing to the Syrian land in Idlib.

The convoy consisted of 25 vehicles containing armored vehicles, artilleries and logistics. It headed to the Turkish points scattered in Zawiya Mountain in the southern countryside of Idlib, according to the source.

Since the beginning of 2021, Turkey continues to send more reinforcements to Idlib in conjunction with the military escalation between the government forces and the armed opposition groups.

The number of the vehicles which entered the Syrian territory since the start of the ceasefire in March 2020 have reached 8,375, in addition to 10,000 Turkish soldiers in Syria, according  to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Since its military intervention in Syria, the Turkish forces have established more than 60 points and military bases in the governorate of Idlib, Hama, Aleppo and Latakia, northwest of the country.
