Israel to interfere in southern Syria: Israeli report
RAMALLAH, Palestine (North Press) – A report issued by the Israeli National Security institute stated on Tuesday that the situation in southern Syria, and the Iranian-Russian struggle for influence in this region, requires intervention by Israel.
Earlier, a political and human rights activist from Daraa governorate, who preferred not to be named for security reasons, said, “Israel, along with an Arab NATO, is approaching to storm southern Syria.”
“The incursion will be under the pretext of protecting the people of Suwayda and Daraa from Iran and Hezbollah, who are seeking systematic demographic change in the southern region,” he told North Press.
The Israeli report calls for the strengthening of Tel Aviv from local Sunni or Druze forces, and the establishment of relations with local residents who are opposed to the regime by providing humanitarian assistance.
This aid allows the emergence of an “Israeli island of influence,” and in this way, the Iranian project of concentration in southern Syria is obstructed, according to the Israeli belief.
The Israeli report sees that the increase in confrontations between parties under the influence of Iran and those dependent on Russia are evidence of the intensification of competition for hegemony between Russia and Iran, as an expression of contradictory interests in the region.
Iran seeks to establish Syria as a branch, through deep, multi-scale penetration into the Syrian systems, such as security, economy, education, society, and religion.
The report explains that Iran controls vital infrastructure, supports militias loyal to it, interferes in building the Syrian army, and leads ideological and demographic change.
“The Iranians pay bribes to local parties, and provoke internal tensions to buy the loyalty of local groups, while at the same time spreading the ideology of the Iranian regime,” the report added.
The Israeli security services believe that despite Iran’s insistence on continuing its control in Syria, the US policy, the Israeli attacks, and competition against Russia slow down the pace of Iranian concentration.
The report recommends preventing Iran from creating areas of tension in the Golan Heights via its proxies, and using Israel to exploit the current weakness of the Iranian axis and coordinate with the Russian army as an opportunity to pursue a more effective policy in southern Syria.
