Turkey awaits its relationship form with US after Biden won
ISTANBUL, Turkey (North Press) – Turkey watch out carefully the White House and the US administration after the Democrat candidate, Joe Biden won the elections.
Turkey is wondering about the future US-Turkish relationship and the American reaction over the Turkish interference in several issues starting from Syria ending in Azerbaijan.
After the electoral victory of Joe Biden, the American foreign policy would be stricter over dealing with Turkey, for several indirect reasons, several analysts and interested in Turkish issue and international affairs expected.
Among these expectations, Biden’s statements in which he described the Turkish president, Erdogan as “tyrannical”, affirming that he would support Turkish opposition parties.
Biden’s statements at the time, sparked the “indignation” of the Turkish Foreign Ministry, which strongly condemned them.
The bilateral ties between the two countries has tensioned recently after Washington hinted of imposing sanctions on Ankara if Turkey did not abandon Russian S-400 missile system, where the tension flared up after Turkey tested the Russian-made S-400 air defence system.
One of the tensions was that the US lifted arms embargo on Cyprus Cypriot, and considered Turkish actions in the eastern Mediterranean provocative, and that it should stop those actions there.
“The most important issue that Syrians care about, is the new US administration position of the Syrian regime and the violations that it commits,” Ahmad al-Ahmad, a human rights activist residing in Germany, said.
Besides, supporting the Syrian opposition politically, supporting IDPs humanely, continuing the tightening on Iran and curbing the Russian ambition militarily and politically, according to al-Ahmad.
“During the past period, Turkey acted very cautiously, and played on balances between Russia and the US,” Rashid al-Horani, a researcher in the political relations, told North Press.
“During 2020, Turkey emerged as working to build a power parallel to the American’s,” he added.
Turkey interfered in complex and complicated issues among different parties, for example it has interfered in the eastern Mediterranean and demarcated the maritime borders between the riparian countries on the sea. It also interfered in the Azerbaijan.
Furthermore, it imposed through its interference, a fait accompli where “those in charge for the issue would not be able to exclude the Turkish role, which in turn refuses to exit without any benefit,” according to al-Horani.
“Regarding the Syrian issue, Turkey is preparing the theatre of the military operations for an up-coming operation in Idlib,” al-Horani believed.
Turkey withdrew from its observatory points which were in the Syrian government-held areas, “in order not to turn to weak points for it, and also to move east of the Euphrates, which is the US-influence zone, in a way that contradicted the American policy plans,” according to al-Horani.
“The main factor of the Turkish role is directly represented in its ability to interfere in the issues of the regions that are competed by both the US and Russia,” he added.
Many presidents and senior political and international figures congratulated Biden for winning the presidency, except for Turkey, which is watching the results of the US elections very carefully.
