First test of a suspected coronavirus case in Kobani

The Health Authority in the Euphrates region has confirmed that the result of the test of the only suspected case in the northern Syrian city of Kobani was negative.

Hadla Hassan, co-chair of the Health Authority, told North-Press that the suspected case arrived at Kobani Hospital two days ago, and the 38-year-old individual was examined with a thermometer, as his temperature was high.

Chest scans and laboratory imaging were performed for the person to confirm his condition. Laboratory tests and imaging confirmed the presence of acute chest infection, so the doctors and the Health Authority decided to quarantine the patient inside his home to verify his condition by conducting a coronavirus test. According to Hassan, the test was performed today and the result was negative.

On Thursday, 1,200 coronavirus test kits arrived in Kobani from the Health Authority in northeastern Syria, and two laboratory specialists from Kobani and Ein Issa were sent to Qamishli to be trained on the use of these test kits, according to Hadla Hassan.

She stressed that there are no other suspected cases of coronavirus infection in the Euphrates region, other than the case that was confirmed to be negative.
