We will take strict measures against coronavirus if necessary – The Interior Authority

On Wednesday, co-chair of the Interior Authority in the al-Jazira region Kanaan Barakat said that they will take additional measures to tackle coronavirus if necessary.

Barakat added in a statement to North-Press that the Autonomous Administration has taken preventive measures to combat coronavirus, including the two-week lockdown. "We believe in the people's awareness of the seriousness of coronavirus. We will take additional measures if necessary," he said.

Barakat did not mention the nature of these measures, but indicated that other decisions will be issued in the upcoming days and they will be implemented. “Some people were seen moving in Derik market, but they were going to food stores and pharmacies to purchase necessities…these cases are limited in the morning hours, but in the evening, there is no movement," Barakat said.

He pointed out that they haven't arrested anyone until now for violating the lockdown decision, "however, violators will be subject to legal accountability in the event of continued non-compliance," he noted.
