Arab, international condemnations follow Israeli strike on Syria’s airbase

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Several Arab countries and Turkey condemned on Tuesday Israel’s strikes on Abu al-Duhur military airbase in eastern Idlib countryside, northwest Syria.

Early Tuesday, Israeli aircraft carried out eight strikes targeting the runway of Abu al-Duhur military airbase. The strikes caused material damage but no casualties were reported.

Saudi Arabia strongly condemned the strikes, saying it rejected what it described as the “blatant aggression” and renewed its call on the international community to halt Israel’s violations of international laws and norms.

Qatar’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement that “Israel’s continued violation of the sovereignty of the countries of the region without deterrence reveals a dangerous approach to imposing a fait accompli by force and a systematic disregard for international legitimacy.”

Egypt’s Foreign Ministry said it fully rejected Israel’s continued violations of Syrian territory, warning that the attacks represented a dangerous escalation that could undermine efforts to support stability in Syria and the region and threaten regional security and peace.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry called on the international community to take a firmer stance to halt what it described as Israel’s escalating aggression against Syria and ensure accountability for those responsible for actions that, it said, disregard international law.

Jassem Mohammed Albudaiwi, secretary-general of the Gulf Cooperation Council, condemned the Israeli strikes targeting Abu al-Duhur military airbase in Idlib governorate.

Kuwait’s Foreign Ministry also condemned the Israeli army’s strikes targeting Abu al-Duhur military airbase in Idlib governorate.

U.S. Republican Representative Joe Wilson said he agreed with U.S. presidential special envoy for Syria and Iraq Tom Barrack’s recent statements on Syria, stressing that continued unilateral aggression harms peace and stability in the region.

Barrack also expressed deep concern on Tuesday afternoon over the Israeli airstrikes on Abu al-Duhur airbase in Idlib countryside.
