Al-Sharaa receives UNHCR chief in Damascus

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa received on Monday UN High Commissioner for Refugees Barham Saleh and his accompanying delegation at the People’s Palace in Damascus, in the presence of Foreign and Expatriates Minister Asaad al-Shaibani.

The meeting comes after al-Sharaa received UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on July 25 at the People’s Palace in Damascus, in the first visit by a UN secretary-general to Syria in 17 years.

According to Syrian state media, the two sides discussed ways to enhance cooperation between Syria and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees UNHCR.

They also discussed support for efforts related to the voluntary and safe return of refugees, as well as livelihood projects and early recovery initiatives.
