Syria central bank expands old currency withdrawal points

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Central Bank of Syria said on Sunday that the withdrawal of old banknotes will continue through authorized outlets of the Syrian Post in all Syrian governorates, in accordance with procedures and regulations governing the process.

The bank added that citizens do not need to visit its headquarters in Damascus to withdraw old currency, and can instead go to authorized Syrian Post outlets in their respective governorates and complete the process according to the established mechanism.

The measure aims to facilitate the process for citizens and reduce the burden of travel, while ensuring that withdrawal services are available across the provinces, the bank said.

The bank indicated that it is coordinating with the Syrian Post to increase the number of withdrawal counters and improve their readiness.

The move is intended to speed up the provision of services and make it easier for citizens to complete the withdrawal process, according to the statement.

The Central Bank did not specify how many additional counters would be added or provide a timeline for the expansion.

The announcement comes as authorities continue the process of withdrawing old Syrian currency through designated channels, with citizens instructed to follow the procedures set by the Central Bank and authorized postal outlets.
