Syrian-Saudi national arrested in Germany over double homicide
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – German authorities have opened a double homicide investigation after two men were found dead near an asylum accommodation facility in the southern city of Augsburg, police said on Wednesday.
According to German police, officers were called to the scene in Augsburg’s southern district on Aug. 3, where they discovered the bodies of a 39-year-old man holding Syrian and Saudi Arabian citizenship and a 54-year-old Iraqi national.
Police later arrested a 29-year-old man with dual Syrian and Saudi citizenship at the scene as the main suspect in the case.
The suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed in line with German privacy laws, is being investigated on two counts of manslaughter.
Authorities have not confirmed whether the suspect and the two victims were residents of the nearby asylum facility, citing the ongoing investigation.
Forensic teams and emergency personnel cordoned off the area and continued examining the crime scene overnight and into Tuesday morning.
German police said there is currently no evidence indicating the involvement of additional suspects.
Investigators have yet to determine the circumstances and motive behind the killings, and the investigation remains ongoing.
A police spokesperson said authorities are continuing to gather evidence and interview witnesses as part of the probe.
The incident took place near an asylum accommodation center in Augsburg, a city in the southern German state of Bavaria.
German authorities have not released further details regarding the relationship between the suspect and the victims or the events leading up to the deaths.
