Turkish gendarmerie detain, beat Syrian youths after border crossing attempt

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – A group of Syrian youths were reportedly detained, beaten and stripped by members of Turkey’s gendarmerie after attempting to cross the Syrian-Turkish border irregularly.

According to local media and a video circulated on social media, the youths were returned to the Syrian side after being held by Turkish border guards while stripped of their clothes, prompting widespread reactions online.

Thousands of Syrians continue to attempt irregular crossings into Turkey, driven by deteriorating economic conditions and a lack of job opportunities inside Syria.

Neither the Turkish authorities nor the Syrian government had issued an official statement on the reported incident at the time of publication.
