First flight from Germany lands in Syria after 14 years
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The first LEAV Aviation flight from Germany arrived at Damascus International Airport on Wednesday, marking the resumption of direct air travel between the two countries after nearly 14 years of suspended flights.
The aircraft departed earlier in the day from the German city of Düsseldorf, carrying passengers on the airline’s inaugural route to Syria since commercial services between the two countries were halted more than a decade ago.
The flight is part of efforts to restore regular air connections between Syria and several European destinations following years of disruption, facilitating travel for Syrians living abroad as well as visitors.
The departure ceremony in Germany was attended by the Syrian chargé d’affaires in Berlin, Muhammad Baraa Shukri, and Syria’s Consul General in Bonn, Mulham al-Khan.
Upon arrival at Damascus International Airport, the flight was received by Abdulhakim al-Sharif, Director of Government Communications at the airport, and Markus Heiken, the German chargé d’affaires in Syria.
