Syria’s Hasakah receives 1.125M tons of wheat
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Syria’s Grain Corporation branch in Qamishli city has received 1.125 million tons of wheat in Hasakah Governorate, northeastern Syria, so far, its director said on Tuesday, warning that current storage capacity is insufficient.
Abdul Hamid Dawoud, director of the corporation, told North Press that the corporation transported some of the received wheat to governorates and areas with available storage space.
He added that plans are underway to expand silos in the coming days to provide adequate storage capacity for wheat in Hasakah.
Dawoud indicated that wheat payments to farmers will be disbursed soon, with invoices being processed through the Agricultural Bank before farmers receive payments for their crops.
The corporation purchases wheat according to official standards issued by Syria’s Ministry of Economy, with grain classified into first-, second- and third-grade categories.
Samples are analyzed according to approved procedures to determine the quality and specifications of the wheat, Dawoud noted.
