German airlines to launch regular flights to Syria in August
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Two German airlines will begin operating regular flights to Syria starting later this month, with flights connecting Berlin and Dusseldorf to Damascus and Aleppo, Syria’s General Authority of Civil Aviation and Air Transport said on Monday.
The authority’s head, Omar al-Hosari, said that German airlines Sundair and LEAV Aviation had joined the list of carriers operating regular flights to Syria after completing the required operational and regulatory approvals.
Sundair will operate two weekly flights between Berlin and Damascus starting Aug. 1, followed by two weekly flights between Berlin and Aleppo from Oct. 1, al-Hosari added.
LEAV Aviation will operate two weekly flights between Dusseldorf and Damascus starting July 29, as well as two weekly flights between Cologne and Aleppo from Aug. 1, he noted.
Al-Hosari pointed out that the authority is continuing talks with several other international airlines interested in operating flights to Syria, adding that any new agreements will be announced after the necessary procedures are completed.
Syrian Airlines will also soon announce its schedule for regular flights to Germany, according to al-Hosari.
The expansion of air links comes amid efforts to increase international connectivity with Syria and restore regular commercial aviation routes.
