Israeli forces enter Syria’s Daraa, residents block road again
DARAA, Syria (North Press) – Israeli forces on Monday entered western Daraa countryside, southern Syria, with five Humvee military vehicles and deployed near the entrance to the al-Jazeera military barracks in the village of Maariyah.
Local sources told North Press that residents of Abidin and Maariyah villages blocked the road that Israeli forces had reopened during Sunday’s military incursion.
The incursion came a day after an Israeli patrol detained a man from the village of al-Samdaniyah al-Gharbiyah in central Quneitra Governorate.
According to the sources, residents closed the road in response to warning leaflets dropped by Israeli drones, while drones continued flying over the area and military reinforcements arrived at the al-Jazeera barracks.
On Sunday, the Israeli military dropped leaflets over villages warning residents not to block roads.
Israeli military activity has increased in recent months across the countryside of Daraa and Quneitra, raising concerns among local residents about the widening scope of the incursions and their impact on the region.
