Man killed by landmine blast in eastern Idlib countryside

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – A man was killed on Sunday after a landmine left behind by the Syrian conflict exploded near the village of Maar Shamsha in the eastern countryside of Idlib governorate, northwestern Syria.

Earlier on Sunday, three children were injured with varying degrees of wounds when a cluster munition left from previous fighting exploded in the village of al-Saloumiya in the al-Qusayr area of southwestern Homs countryside.

The Syrian state-run Al-Ikhbariya TV reported that the young man was killed after the landmine exploded near Maar Shamsha village in eastern Idlib countryside.

Unexploded ordnance and landmines continue to pose a serious threat to civilians across Syria, years after major fighting subsided in many parts of the country, causing repeated casualties, particularly among residents returning to affected areas.
