U.S. continues 8th night of strikes on Iranian military targets
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The United States carried out its eighth consecutive night of military strikes against Iran, targeting military infrastructure and forces linked to recent attacks on U.S. personnel, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said on Saturday.
In a statement, CENTCOM said the latest strikes were conducted on July 18 at 11:30 p.m. Eastern Time under the direction of the U.S. president.
According to the statement, U.S. forces struck Iranian military coastal surveillance and air defense facilities, maritime capabilities, and missile and drone storage sites as part of an ongoing campaign to degrade Iran’s military capabilities.
CENTCOM added that American military assets also targeted Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) forces that it said were responsible for launching attacks against U.S. service members stationed in Jordan on July 17.
“More than 50,000 U.S. men and women in uniform are operating across the Middle East,” the command said. “They remain highly vigilant, focused, lethal, and ready.”
The U.S. military said the campaign is aimed at reducing Iran’s ability to conduct missile, drone and maritime operations while deterring further attacks against American personnel and regional partners.
The latest strikes came after Iran-backed forces launched a deadly attack on a U.S. military position in Jordan on July 17, killing several American service members and injuring others. The attack marked one of the deadliest assaults on U.S. troops in the region in recent years and prompted Washington to pledge a decisive military response. U.S. officials blamed the IRGC and its affiliated militias for supporting and enabling the attack, saying those responsible would be held accountable. The incident has further heightened tensions between the United States and Iran, raising concerns over the risk of a broader regional conflict.
