Syria denies Iranian strike on Tanf base
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Syrian military sources on Friday denied reports that Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) targeted the Tanf base in southeastern Syria, stating that the facility was not attacked and that no US military forces are currently stationed there.
Hours earlier, the IRGC announced that it had targeted the vicinity of the Tanf base as part of a renewed exchange of fire between Iran and the United States.
A Syrian military source told Syria TV that the Tanf base “was not subjected to any attack or bombardment,” adding that “there is no US military presence there.”
The source said the Iranian strike that landed inside Syrian territory hit an empty desert area and did not reach the Tanf area.
The official further stated that US forces had withdrawn from the Tanf area in February and no longer maintain a military presence at the base.
The Tanf base, located near the Syrian-Iraqi-Jordanian border, previously hosted US forces as part of the international coalition’s operations in Syria before their reported withdrawal earlier this year.
