Trump urges Netanyahu to redeploy Israeli forces out of Syria
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – U.S. President Donald Trump urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to begin redeploying Israeli forces out of Syria during a phone call last Thursday and encouraged him to take similar steps in Lebanon, according to U.S. and Israeli officials.
“President Trump told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during a phone call Thursday that Israel should start redeploying its forces out of Syria and urged him to do the same in Lebanon, according to U.S. and Israeli officials,” Axios reported on Tuesday.
The report said the conversation reflected Trump’s position that Israel should begin reducing its military presence in both neighboring countries.
Israeli forces have expanded their presence in parts of southern Syria since December 2024, prompting repeated criticism from the United Nations and several countries, which have described the deployment as unjustified and called for Israel’s withdrawal.
In Lebanon, Israeli forces continue to maintain positions in the south. Israeli officials have said the deployment is intended to prevent cross-border attacks similar to those of October 7, 2023.
Neither the White House nor the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office had publicly commented on the Axios report at the time of publication.
