Iran targets U.S. base in Jordan with ballistic missiles
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Tuesday said it had targeted a U.S. air base in Jordan with ballistic missiles and urged Jordanians to press for the removal of American military bases from the country.
In a statement carried by the semi-official Fars News Agency, the IRGC claimed responsibility for the strike as tensions between Tehran and Washington continued to escalate across the Gulf.
Earlier Tuesday, the UAE Ministry of Defense said one sailor was killed and eight others were injured after two Emirati oil tankers were struck by Iranian cruise missiles in the southern shipping lane of the Strait of Hormuz, within Omani territorial waters.
The ministry said the attack caused material damage to both vessels after fires broke out on board, adding that the blazes were later brought under control.
Iranian media, citing the IRGC, reported that two “non-compliant” supertankers had been targeted and disabled in the Strait of Hormuz after allegedly ignoring warnings, switching off their navigation systems, and attempting to transit through what Iran described as a “mined route.”
In a separate statement, the IRGC accused the United States of encouraging commercial vessels to use an “illegal route,” warning that cooperation with what it called the “aggressor enemy” would delay the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and could trigger a global energy crisis.
Meanwhile, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) agency reported that an oil tanker was struck by an unidentified projectile while sailing approximately 40 nautical miles northeast of Qalhat, Oman.
According to UKMTO, the vessel’s master reported that the projectile hit the starboard-side engine room.
Separately, security sources told Reuters on Tuesday that a site belonging to an Iranian Kurdish opposition group east of Erbil, Iraq, had come under missile attack.
The latest developments follow a new wave of U.S. military strikes on Iranian targets. Two days earlier, the U.S. military announced it had completed another round of attacks after previously launching operations under orders from President Donald Trump.
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said the five-hour mission struck military targets across Iran, including in Bushehr, Chabahar, Jask, Konarak, Abu Musa Island, and Bandar Abbas.
On Monday, Trump said the United States was targeting Iranian capabilities linked to the Strait of Hormuz as military tensions between the two countries continued to intensify.
