Syrian Grain Corporation in Hasakah receives 877,000 tons of wheat
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Grain Corporation has received 877,000 tons of wheat from farmers in Hasakah Governorate, northeastern Syria, as of July 11, with procurement expected to conclude later this week, a local official on Monday said.
Abdul Hamid Dawoud, director of the Syrian Grain Corporation’s Hasakah branch, told North Press that wheat purchasing and collection operations are continuing at a pace similar to recent weeks.
He said the newly opened grain collection center in the city of Derbasiyah has received around 15,000 tons of wheat since it began operations through July 11.
Dawoud noted that the corporation’s main challenge is a shortage of storage capacity, forcing officials to transport large quantities of wheat from collection centers to other storage sites with available space in order to continue receiving farmers’ harvests.
He added that the corporation has completed a substantial number of wheat purchase invoices, which will be transferred to the Agricultural Bank within the next two days to begin disbursing payments to farmers.
Dawoud said he expects the wheat procurement and marketing season in Hasakah to be completed by the end of the current week.
