U.S. says third wave of strikes hit 140 Iranian military targets
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said on Sunday that American forces carried out a third round of airstrikes against Iranian military targets this week, striking approximately 140 sites in response to an attack on a commercial vessel in the Strait of Hormuz.
In a statement posted on X, CENTCOM said the operation targeted Iranian missile and drone sites, naval capabilities, ammunition storage facilities, communication networks, and coastal surveillance positions.
The command added that U.S. forces have struck more than 300 targets over the course of three nights of operations aimed at degrading Iran’s ability to threaten civilian shipping and commercial vessels transiting the strategic waterway.
The U.S. military said the vessel sustained significant damage to its engine room, leaving it unable to continue its voyage, while one civilian crew member remains missing. Commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz continues despite the incident, CENTCOM added.
The strikes came hours after Iran announced it had closed the Strait of Hormuz following what it described as warning shots fired at a vessel traveling through an unauthorized route. Tehran warned that any retaliation over the incident would be met with a “severe response.”
The latest exchange marks a further escalation in tensions between Washington and Tehran, raising concerns over security in one of the world’s most critical maritime corridors for global energy supplies.
