QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The United Arab Emirates welcomed US President Donald Trump’s decision to begin procedures to remove Syria from the US list of state sponsors of terrorism, describing the move as an important step toward the country’s recovery and reconstruction.
According to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement issued on Thursday that lifting the designation would help boost economic activity, create a more attractive environment for investment, and support Syria’s integration into the global economy, contributing to stability, development, and prosperity.
The ministry also praised President Trump’s efforts to initiate the decision, reaffirming the UAE’s support for initiatives aimed at assisting the Syrian people and advancing their aspirations for security, stability, development, and peaceful coexistence.
On Wednesday, Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa received a letter from President Trump informing him that the US administration had notified Congress of the start of procedures to revoke Syria’s designation as a state sponsor of terrorism. Under US law, the decision is subject to a 45-day congressional review period before it can take effect.
