U.S. strikes Iran again, Tehran targets gulf states
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The United States early Thursday launched a new wave of airstrikes against targets in Iran, prompting retaliatory attacks by Tehran against locations in Bahrain, Kuwait and Qatar.
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said, “U.S. forces struck approximately 90 Iranian military targets including air defense systems, coastal surveillance assets, missile and drone storage sites, naval capabilities, and military logistics infrastructure along Iran’s coastline. The latest strikes follow successful execution of offensive strikes in Iran the night before.”
The latest exchange came hours after U.S. President Donald Trump declared that recent Iranian attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz had effectively ended the ceasefire between Washington and Tehran.
Following a NATO summit, Trump posted on his social media platform videos purportedly showing explosions in Iran, threatening further retribution if Iran repeated its bombing of ships.
In response to Iran’s airstrikes, air raid sirens sounded across parts of Bahrain, including areas near the headquarters of the U.S. Navy’s Fifth Fleet, while Kuwait’s military said it was actively intercepting incoming drones and missiles.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) officials claimed responsibility for attacks targeting Bahrain and Kuwait. There were no immediate reports of significant damage or casualties in the Gulf states.
Iranian state media reported explosions in several parts of the country, including Bushehr, home to Iran’s nuclear power facility, as well as the southern port cities of Chabahar, Konarak, Bandar Abbas and Sirik.
Authorities in the southeastern city of Iranshahr said a strike near the local airport killed a firefighter.
For the first time since April, reports also suggested that U.S. strikes targeted transportation infrastructure. Iranian state media said a railway bridge in Golestan province was hit, while the IRGC reported attacks on two bridges along routes leading to Mashhad, where preparations are underway for the burial of former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
