U.S. hits over 80 targets in Iran following Strait of Hormuz attacks
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The U.S. military on Tuesday carried out a new round of strikes against Iran, targeting more than 80 military sites in response to Tehran’s latest attacks on commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said.
According to CENTCOM, the operation struck “Iranian air defense systems, command and control networks, coastal radar sites, anti-ship missile capabilities, and more than 60 Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps small boats in and near the strait”
The U.S. military said the strikes were intended to degrade Iran’s ability to launch further attacks on international shipping and safeguard freedom of navigation through one of the world’s most critical maritime trade routes.
CENTCOM said the operation followed recent Iranian attacks on three commercial tankers transiting the Strait of Hormuz: the Marshall Islands-flagged M/T Al Rekayyat, the Saudi Arabia-flagged M/T Wedyan, and the Liberian-flagged M/T Cyprus Prosperity.
The command described the attacks as “unwarranted aggression” and said they constituted a clear violation of the ceasefire while undermining international maritime security and freedom of navigation.
CENTCOM added that U.S. forces remain prepared to take further action should Iran fail to comply with the terms of the agreement or continue threatening commercial shipping in the region.
Meanwhile, Iranian state media reported strikes on Qeshm island, Bandar Abbas, and Sirik, causing injuries from shrapnel.
