Israeli army kills Hezbollah militants in south Lebanon
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Israeli military on Sunday said that it had killed members of the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah who were carrying rocket-propelled grenades and struck a rocket launch site in the Nabatieh area of southern Lebanon, describing the operation as an effort to eliminate threats to its forces.
In a statement cited by Reuters, the military said it had targeted a building from which the militants were operating and dismantled a rocket launcher that it said posed a threat.
Earlier, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun informed U.S. President Donald Trump that Lebanon would assume responsibility for implementing the framework agreement reached with Israel.
According to a statement from the Lebanese presidency, Trump reaffirmed that the United States would continue supporting Lebanon’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity. The statement added that Washington backs efforts to extend state authority, through Lebanon’s armed forces, across the country’s entire territory, prevent threats to Lebanon’s stability, and support the positions of the president and decisions of the government.
On Friday, Israel and Lebanon signed a U.S.-brokered framework agreement following several days of talks in Washington, paving the way for negotiations aimed at ending the war along the Lebanese front.
