Security forces capture 10 fugitives in far northeastern Syria
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – The Internal Security Forces announced on Wednesday that its forces had recaptured ten detainees who had escaped from a detention facility in the city of Derik (al-Malikiyah) in the countryside of Qamishli, far northeastern Syria.
In a statement, the Internal Security Forces said that 11 detainees managed to escape from a temporary holding facility, prompting an immediate security response.
“Our forces were placed on high alert and responded swiftly and decisively to the incident, successfully re-arresting ten of the escapees,” the statement said.
The command added that search, investigation, and tracking operations remain ongoing and intensified to locate and apprehend the eleventh and final fugitive.
The security forces also dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that members of the Islamic State (ISIS) had escaped from Derik Prison.
“The information recently published by certain pages and social media platforms alleging the escape of ISIS-affiliated prisoners from Derik Prison is false and has no basis in reality,” the statement said.
Authorities clarified that the facility in question is not designated for ISIS detainees, noting that the incident occurred at a temporary detention center housing individuals held on various charges, most of which are classified as misdemeanors.
The statement stressed that the majority of those involved in the escape were not linked to terrorism-related cases.
