U.S. to keep working with Syria against ISIS

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The United States said that it would continue working with Syria to combat the Islamic State (ISIS), maintain stability in the country and ensure the safety of American citizens, according to remarks by a senior U.S. diplomat published by the State Department’s Arabic-language platform on Tuesday.

U.S. Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Tammy Bruce said Washington would continue cooperating with Syria to “disrupt and dismantle” ISIS networks, while also supporting efforts aimed at preserving stability in the country.

“The United States will continue to cooperate with Syria to disrupt and dismantle networks of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), and to maintain stability in Syria and ensure the safety of Americans,” Bruce said in a post published by the US Department of State in Arabic on X.

She added that Washington also expects Syria to play a broader role regionally and internationally in counterterrorism efforts, saying the country has “much to offer” in advancing what she described as a shared goal of peace, security and prosperity in the Middle East.

The remarks come amid ongoing international focus on counterterrorism cooperation in Syria, particularly as the country continues to navigate a fragile political transition and security challenges linked to ISIS activity in several areas.

Bruce’s comments signal continued U.S. support for cooperation with Damascus on security issues, while also reflecting Washington’s expectation that Syria take on a greater role in broader regional efforts to combat extremist networks.

The statement did not provide details on the scope of future coordination, but underscored the United States’ interest in linking Syria’s internal stability with wider regional security efforts and long-term counterterrorism cooperation.
