QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – US Representative Joe Wilson announced on Monday that an agreement has been reached with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to remove Syria from the US list of state sponsors of terrorism.
Earlier, the head of political affairs at the Syrian American Council, Mohammed Alaa Ghanem, said that senior US Representative Joe Wilson had announced reaching an agreement with Secretary of State Marco Rubio to remove Syria from the “state sponsors of terrorism” list.
Wilson also announced that he would introduce new legislation this week in the US House of Representatives aimed at removing Syria from the list. He stated that the objective of the proposed legislation is to send a message to US President Donald Trump and the State Department indicating congressional support for the move, and to urge the administration to accelerate the formal announcement of its completion at the earliest opportunity.
Wilson has previously played a prominent role in efforts related to the repeal of the “Caesar Act,” through repeated initiatives and calls to vote in favor of its cancellation.
No further details were immediately provided regarding the timeline for the proposed measures.
