Syrian American Council says efforts underway to remove Syria from U.S. terrorism list
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Mohammad Alaa Ghanem, head of political affairs at the Syrian American Council, on Monday said that prominent U.S. Congressman Joe Wilson had announced an agreement with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio to remove Syria from the U.S. list of state sponsors of terrorism.
In a post on X, Ghanem said, “We are furthermore pleased to announce his introduction of new legislation this week in the House of Representatives to remove Syria’s name from this list.”
He explained that the purpose of the proposed legislation is to send a message to U.S. President Donald Trump and the State Department that Congress supports the move and encourages the administration to expedite its formal announcement as soon as possible.
