Two killed in Israeli strike as evacuation orders issued for 29 villages in south Lebanon

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Two people were killed in an Israeli drone strike targeting a vehicle in southern Lebanon early Sunday, while the Israeli military issued evacuation warnings for 29 villages across the region ahead of planned military operations.

Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA) reported that an Israeli drone struck a pickup truck on the Msayleh road, killing two people.

The strike came amid a series of Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon. Israeli warplanes reportedly carried out an airstrike on the Maamoura area in Housh Tyre, while another drone strike targeted the town of Abbassiyeh. Artillery shelling was also reported in the areas of Bayt al-Sayyad and Mansouri.

Separately, the Israeli military issued two evacuation notices affecting 29 villages in southern Lebanon.

In the first warning, residents of 13 villages were instructed to leave their homes immediately and move north of the Zahrani River, located about 40 kilometers from the Lebanese-Israeli border.

A second notice ordered residents of 16 additional villages to evacuate and remain at least one kilometer away from the targeted areas in open terrain.

The Israeli military said the evacuation orders were issued in response to what it described as Hezbollah’s violations of the ceasefire agreement.

The developments come amid continued tensions along the Lebanese-Israeli border despite a ceasefire arrangement aimed at reducing hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah.

On Saturday, Israeli media reported that the Israeli army was preparing to halt its advance in southern Lebanon while maintaining what it described as “security zones” in the area.

The latest escalation raises concerns over renewed large-scale military operations in southern Lebanon and the potential displacement of additional civilians from border communities.
