Car bomb explosion kills Syrian soldier in Damascus

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Ministry of Defense announced on Tuesday that one soldier was killed and several others were injured following a car bomb explosion in the Bab Sharqi area in the capital, Damascus.

A source from the Ministry’s Media and Communication Directorate stated that a unit of the Syrian army discovered an improvised explosive device planted near one of the Ministry of Defense buildings in the Bab Sharqi district.

The source added that the device was dealt with immediately, and while attempting to dismantle it, a car bomb exploded in the same area, leading to the death of a soldier and injuring others with varying wounds.

Bab Sharqi is one of the central districts in Damascus, where security incidents have been periodically reported in previous years, amid ongoing tensions across different regions of Syria.

No additional details were immediately provided regarding the identities of the casualties or the circumstances surrounding the incident.
