QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – A member of the Syrian Interior Ministry lost his life and another was injured on Monday after a landmine exploded beneath their vehicle while they were heading to the Badia Security Branch in eastern Suwayda countryside, a local source told North Press.
The source said the two members were from the al-Lajat area in eastern Daraa countryside. The explosion occurred on a road leading to the Badia Security Branch, partially destroying the vehicle.
The source added that the desert area stretching between the countryside of Suwayda and Daraa remains heavily contaminated with landmines and unexploded remnants of war.
The contamination has continued to cause casualties, most of them civilians working in sheep grazing and other agricultural activities in the region.
