Syrian army sends reinforcements to Iraqi border after attacks
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Ministry of Defense dispatched on Sunday new military reinforcements to areas along the Syrian-Iraqi border following attacks that struck Syrian territory in recent hours and were said to have originated from Iraq.
A military source in Deir ez-Zor told North Press that additional units arrived in the morning and were deployed at several key positions in the al-Heri area, east of Deir ez-Zor city, and its surroundings along the border.
The reinforcements include dozens of soldiers, vehicles, and heavy weapons, aimed at preventing any security breach along the frontier between Syria and Iraq, the source said.
He added that this is the third batch of reinforcements sent to the border since the outbreak of the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran and the subsequent exchange of attacks between the parties.
According to the source, government forces also arrested a number of cells affiliated with the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) and Iran inside Syrian territory, saying they had infiltrated through the Syrian-Iraqi border.
