US urges its citizens to leave Syria immediately

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The US Embassy in Syria issued on Wednesday an urgent warning calling on its citizens residing in Syrian territory to leave the country immediately, citing the increasing military escalation in the region.

In a statement published on its Facebook account, the embassy said, “As of February 28, 2026, Syria is experiencing an increase in combat operations due to regional tensions.”

The embassy clarified that “its operations in Damascus have been suspended since 2012, and the US government is unable to provide any routine or emergency consular services to American citizens in Syria.”

It noted that the Czech Republic serves as the protecting power for US interests in Syria. The statement urged American citizens in need of emergency assistance who are unable to reach the US interests section at the Czech embassy to contact the US Embassy in Amman, Jordan.

The warning comes amid heightened regional tensions and reflects the ongoing instability and lack of US diplomatic presence on the ground in Syria.
