Internal Security Forces dismantle ISIS Cell in Raqqa

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Internal Security Forces in Raqqa announced on Tuesday the dismantling of a cell affiliated with the Islamic State (ISIS) following a series of coordinated security operations carried out in the city and its countryside.

Colonel Rami Assad al-Taha, commander of the Internal Security Forces in Raqqa, said the operations were conducted after two recent attacks targeting a checkpoint belonging to the Internal Security Forces west of Raqqa city over the past two days.

According to al-Taha, the operations resulted in “neutralizing the leader of the ISIS-affiliated cell responsible for those attacks, as well as eliminating another member and arresting four others,” adding that weapons and ammunition in the possession of the suspects were seized during the raids.

The announcement came a day after the Syrian Interior Ministry reported that four of its personnel were killed and two others injured in an attack on a security checkpoint in Raqqa countryside on Monday.

Al-Taha stated that the security campaign involved simultaneous and specialized operations based on intelligence gathering and field monitoring, aimed at preventing further attacks and dismantling networks operating in the area.
