Israeli force advances into Syria’s Quneitra

QUNEITRA, Syria (North Press) – An Israeli military force advanced on Monday into the northern countryside of Quneitra, southern Syria, setting up a temporary checkpoint in the town of Jubata al-Khashab and inspecting several vehicles, as part of ongoing military movements in southern Syria.

A local source told North Press that Israeli soldiers entered the town in four SUVs carrying more than 20 personnel.

The force reportedly arrived from one of the military positions recently established in the wooded area of Jubata al-Khashab following the fall of the former Syrian regime.

According to the source, the soldiers erected a temporary checkpoint inside the town, where they searched a number of vehicles and requested identification cards from residents passing through the area.

The patrol also conducted a sweep between residential houses before withdrawing.

Recurring Israeli incursions into villages and towns across the countryside of Quneitra and neighboring Daraa have restricted farmers’ access to their agricultural lands, negatively affecting their livelihoods and economic conditions.

Residents say the repeated military movements have heightened tensions in the border region, which has witnessed growing instability since the political changes in Syria.
