Three separate attacks target government sites in Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Three separate attacks targeted on Sunday night a government facility and two checkpoints in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, a security source said.

A security source from the General Security Directorate in Deir ez-Zor told North Press that unidentified gunmen attacked a government forces checkpoint at the entrance to the town of al-Busayrah in southeastern Deir ez-Zor countryside, using an RPG-7 launcher and machine guns.

The source added that clashes erupted between the attackers and government forces following the assault. The assailants reportedly fled the area after running out of ammunition.

In a separate incident, unidentified gunmen opened fire with machine guns on a government facility in the town of Diban, also in southeastern Deir ez-Zor countryside.

The attackers shot at a guard stationed at the facility but did not cause any injuries before fleeing toward the desert area west of the Euphrates River.

Meanwhile, in the village of al-Zur, southeast of Deir ez-Zor, gunmen targeted a checkpoint on the main road with machine-gun fire. The attack resulted in material damage only, with no reported casualties.

The same source confirmed that security forces imposed a cordon around the targeted sites, carried out search operations in the affected towns, and arrested several individuals as part of an ongoing investigation.
