QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Residents in the countryside of al-Qardaha town in Syria’s coastal governorate of Latakia, found on Saturday the body of journalist Alaa Mohammed after he was shot in the head inside his home.

Local sources told North Press that hours before his killing, Mohammed had criticized the performance of the new government during a live video broadcast on his Facebook page.

The sources added that the journalist had been supportive of the new government and had received frequent threats from remnants of the former regime due to his stance.

Meanwhile, local media pages reported that the relevant General Security authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances of the incident to determine its details and motives.

The same sources noted that Mohammed was active within the Civil Peace Team in Syria’s coastal region and enjoyed popularity in the area.
