Child killed, another injured in northern Daraa landmine blast

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – A child was killed and another injured on Friday in northern Daraa, southern Syria, after a landmine left from previous conflict detonated, local sources reported to North Press.

The explosion occurred in the Tel al-Hara area of northern Daraa, where remnants of war continue to pose a threat to civilians. Sources emphasized that the surrounding area remains hazardous due to scattered unexploded ordnance. Authorities have repeatedly warned residents to avoid approaching suspicious objects.

Northern Daraa, like other parts of southern Syria, remains affected by the legacy of past conflicts, including the presence of landmines, explosive remnants, and abandoned munitions. Such hazards have contributed to ongoing civilian casualties despite relative local security improvements.

The local community continues to face daily risks from unexploded munitions, and authorities are coordinating with humanitarian organizations to raise awareness and conduct safe clearance operations.
