SDF says sanctioned pro-Damascus factions shell posts east of Aleppo
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) affirmed on Monday their “full and legitimate right” to defend their fighters and civilians amid what they described as indiscriminate shelling targeting the city of Deir Hafer in the eastern countryside of Aleppo.
In a statement released by its Media Center, the SDF accused the al-Amshat and al-Hamzat factions—groups affiliated with the Damascus government and listed under international sanctions—of carrying out the attacks on its posts and civilians’ homes in Deir Hafer.
According to the statement, the shelling deliberately targeted civilian homes, placing residents’ lives at “extreme risk” and constituting serious violations of international norms.
The SDF said the attacks did not result in any human or material losses among its forces, stressing that responsibility for the shelling and its consequences lies entirely with the attacking factions.
“Our forces affirm their full and legitimate right to defend both our fighters and our people,” the statement read, warning that continued attacks on civilians would not go unanswered.
The SDF reiterated its condemnation of what it described as crimes against civilians and held the responsible parties accountable for any escalation or repercussions resulting from the shelling.
