Unknown rocket lands near Mezzeh Airport, no damage reported
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – A rocket of unknown origin fell on Saturday near Mezzeh Military Airport in Damascus, causing an explosion that was heard across parts of the capital, according to Syrian state media.
The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) quoted a security source as saying that the blast “did not result in any damage.” The source added that the incident occurred shortly after residents reported hearing a loud explosion in the vicinity of Mezzeh, a densely populated district west of central Damascus.
State-run al-Ikhbariyah TV also cited a security source who stated, “The sound of the explosion in the city of Damascus was caused by unknown individuals launching a rocket that fell in the vicinity of Mezzeh Airport without causing any damage.”
Earlier in the day, SANA reported that an explosion had been heard near the Mezzeh area, prompting security units to deploy to the site. The agency said that specialized teams immediately began an investigation to determine the nature of the explosion and identify the source of the rocket.
