Syrian security forces arrest wanted man in Daraa, seize weapons cache
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Interior Ministry announced on Saturday the arrest of a man accused of serious violations in Daraa Governorate, southern Syria, and the seizure of a large cache of weapons in the border town of Nasib.
In a statement, the ministry said, “Units from the Internal Security Command in Daraa carried out a precise security operation that led to the arrest of Imad Muhammad Abu Zureiq, wanted for committing serious crimes.”
According to the statement, initial investigations revealed that Abu Zureiq had direct ties with security agencies during the previous regime, which he allegedly exploited to commit grave violations. These included the killing of civilians, armed robberies, and managing a network for drug trafficking and smuggling inside and outside Syria.
The ministry added that during interrogation, the detainee provided detailed confessions about the existence of weapons depots in Nasib. Security units immediately moved to the identified sites, where they discovered and confiscated large quantities of arms and ammunition.
The seized materials included mortar shells of various calibers, Katyusha rockets, Metis anti-armor missiles, heavy and medium machine guns, assorted ammunition, and wireless communication devices.
Authorities confirmed that the confiscated weapons were secured in accordance with legal procedures, while the detainee was referred to the competent judiciary for further legal action.
