Asayish arrest 21 in security campaign in northern Syria
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) –The Internal Security Forces (Asayish) announced on Monday the arrest of 21 wanted individuals during a wide-ranging security campaign in northern Syria’s Euphrates region, as part of ongoing efforts to enhance public safety and counter criminal activity.
In an official statement, the Asayish said their forces in the Euphrates region carried out an extensive search and inspection campaign in the town of al-Shuyoukh and the villages of al-Qubba and al-Jaada, based on “confirmed information received by our security services regarding the presence of individuals involved in criminal acts, drug use and trafficking, in addition to persons wanted by the Internal Security Forces and the judiciary.”
The statement noted that the campaign was implemented in coordination with the Public Prosecution, alongside operational units and the Special Forces (HAT), with the participation of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). According to the Asayish, the operation resulted in the arrest of 21 detainees.
During the searches, security forces seized a large cache of weapons and ammunition, including 25 Kalashnikov rifles with 61 magazines, five German-made Brno rifles, 20 pistols, a box of assorted ammunition, 100 rounds of PKC ammunition, and 400 rounds of Russian ammunition. The Asayish also reported the confiscation of a quantity of TNT explosives.
The Asayish emphasized that the campaign was conducted in line with legal procedures and within a coordinated security framework, highlighting cooperation between internal security forces, judicial bodies, and the SDF. No clashes or civilian injuries were reported during the operation.
The Asayish said that the detainees were transferred to the relevant judicial authorities for further investigation, adding that security operations will continue “whenever necessary” to address threats to public order and stability in northern and eastern Syria.
