Gunfire near White House injures 2 National Guard members
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Two members of the U.S. National Guard were critically injured on Wednesday in a shooting incident near the White House, prompting swift responses from federal authorities and President Donald Trump.
The shooting, which occurred in a high-security area near 17th Street and I Street, left the two Guardsmen hospitalized in separate facilities. U.S. President Trump reacted to the incident via his social media platform, Truth Social, expressing his outrage.
“The animal who shot at two National Guard members, both of whom are seriously wounded and receiving treatment in different hospitals, is also severely injured,” Trump wrote. “But he will pay a heavy price nonetheless.”
Trump also extended his support to the military and law enforcement, adding, “God bless the National Guard, the military, and law enforcement. As President of the United States, I stand with you.”
White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt confirmed that President Trump was briefed on the incident, and noted that the White House is monitoring the situation closely.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grounded outgoing flights to Ronald Reagan National Airport in Washington D.C. due to security concerns following the shooting.
In a statement, U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, said authorities had responded to the scene and were working with local law enforcement to gather additional details.
“Please join me in praying for the two National Guard members who were shot just moments ago in Washington, D.C.,” she said.
Authorities have not yet revealed the motive behind the attack, and the condition of the injured Guardsmen remains undisclosed. A suspect, believed to have been involved in the shooting, is reportedly in custody, though no further details have been provided.
