USCRI urges Trump administration to reverse decision ending TPS for Syrians
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI) voiced on Friday deep concern over the Trump administration’s decision to terminate the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Syrians, calling on the government to reverse the move.
In a statement, the committee said it was “deeply concerned by the Administration’s decision to terminate Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Syria, effective November 21, 2025.”
USCRI urged the administration to reconsider and issue an 18-month extension and redesignation of TPS for Syria, stressing its continued commitment to defending the rights, safety, and dignity of displaced people.
On Sep. 19, the Trump administration announced that it would end TPS for thousands of Syrians living in the United States, marking a major shift in immigration policy.
The TPS program, introduced in 2012 under the Obama administration in response to the Syrian civil war, has allowed Syrians to live and work legally in the U.S. As of March 2025, nearly 4,000 Syrians were protected under this status.
