Damascus Governorate fines shops over Assad regime flags
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Authorities in Damascus Governorate imposed fines and temporarily closed several shops for displaying the flag of the former Syrian regime, local sources told North Press on Saturday.
According to the sources, the governorate “sealed a number of shops with red wax and shut them down for failing to remove the prohibited flag from their storefronts.”
Some shop owners have since complied, repainting their facades and removing the old flag to meet official requirements.
The directive comes as part of ongoing efforts by the Damascus Governorate to enforce compliance with current regulations.
The sources noted that since early 2014, shop owners had been required by the al-Assad regime to paint their storefronts with the old Syrian flag, a practice now being reversed under new administrative rules.
The governorate did not immediately comment on the scope of the enforcement campaign or the total fines imposed.
