AANES Rep., Finnish ambassador discuss Syria developments in Beirut
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Bedran Çiya Kurd, Deputy Co-Chair of the Foreign Relations Department of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), met on Wednesday with Anne Meskanen, Finnish Ambassador to Beirut and Chargé d’Affaires of her country’s embassy in Damascus.
The meeting, also attended by Abdel Salam Ahmad, AANES representative in Lebanon, addressed the latest political and security developments in Syria, with a particular focus on the situation in North and East Syria (Rojava).
Çiya Kurd said that discussions highlighted the importance of launching a genuine national political dialogue and drafting a constitution that reflects the aspirations of all Syrians.
He also stressed the need to continue efforts to combat the Islamic State (ISIS) and maintain sustainable stability across Syria.
Ambassador Meskanen described the talks as fruitful, underscoring Finland’s interest in following developments in the region closely.
The AANES has long sought to expand its diplomatic outreach with European countries, despite lacking official recognition. In recent years, its representatives have held multiple meetings with European officials, particularly on counterterrorism cooperation, humanitarian aid, and the search for a political solution in Syria.
These contacts reflect both the AANES’ push for international engagement and Europe’s cautious interest in supporting stability in northeast Syria while navigating relations with Damascus and regional powers.
